Acknowledgments We are grateful to Y. Miwa for his help in the X-ray diffraction experiments. The experiments were performed at the Photon Factory with the approval of the Photon Factory Program Advisory Committee (Proposal No. 2015G689). This work was supported by JSPS KAKENHI Grant Numbers JP22540373 and JP15H05885 (J-Physics).

N2 - X-ray diffraction measurements on the antiferromagnet EuAl4 using synchrotron radiation have revealed that satellite peaks characterized by an incommensurate wave vector (0, 0, ζ) with ζ ≈ 0.18 appear below 145.1 K, suggesting the formation of a charge density wave. The value of ζ shows an inflection at an antiferromagnetic transition temperature of 15.4 K, and it changes discontinuously at lower antiferromagnetic transition temperatures of 12.2 and 10.0 K. The antiferromagnetic transition at 12.2 K is accompanied by a structural transition from the modulated structure on a tetragonal lattice to that on a lattice with lower symmetry such as an orthorhombic one.
