Landau coefficients determined from pressure-induced susceptibility maximum in itinerant-electron metamagnet La(Fe0.89Si0-11) 13

Abstract

The itinerant-electron metamagnetic (IEM) La(Fe0.89Si 0.11)13 exhibits a susceptibility maximum phenomenon by applying the critical pressure pc = 1.3 GPa for the disappearance of the ferromagnetic state. Based on the relation between the maximum susceptibility and the critical field of the IEM transition, the 2nd, 4th and 6th-order terms of the Landau coefficients for the free energy have been obtained. A large negative value of the 4th-order coefficient is a marked feature in the present compound, resulting in a large entropy change at the transition.
