Kinematics analysis of cursor trajectory in a pointing task with mouse in a large display

Abstract

We investigated effects of target attributes and C-D ratio on cursor trajectory by measuring the kinematics features in a pointing task with a mouse. Two experiments of Fitts' tasks toward eight directions were conducted in a large and high resolution display. As a result, we found followings: (1) cursor trajectory tends to be curved, (2) it does not depend on target size, and (3) it is determined by target direction, target distance, and the C-D ratio. These data suggest that the two-component model, which has been discussed on velocity profile, can also be applied to cursor trajectory.
