Abstract

We present a result of molecular dynamics simulation on mechanical unfolding of a semi-flexible polymer in comparison with a flexible polymer. The result shows that the force response changes remarkably depending on the initial morphology of the folded compact state. We also obtain the marked hysteresis in the loading-unloading cycle of a semi-flexible polymer even under slow loading velocity, whereas a flexible polymer does not exhibit hysteresis.
