Investigation of performance in suppressing various vibrations with energy-recycling semi-active method

Abstract

Various investigations on the performance of an energy-recycling semi-active vibration suppression using piezoelectric transducers attached to structures are presented. With the energy-recycling method, the converted electrical energy is recycled to suppress the vibration of structures instead of simply being dissipated. First, the energy-recycling semi-active method is employed to suppress the vibration of an actual 10-bay truss that is excited by sinusoidal and random forces. Next, the method is applied for vibration suppression of a beam which is a typical continuous structure. Third, transient vibration of a membrane that is a typical tension-stabilized structure is suppressed with the method. Through these investigations, the energy-recycling method is shown to be effectively employed for actual systems.
