Intrinsic flux pinning in high Tc oxide superconductors

Abstract

In the high-Tc oxide superconductors with layered structures the coherence length is shorther than the lattice constant. This fact suggests that the layer structure itself works as strong pinning centers for the flux lines whose axes are parallel to the layers. The critical current density estimated from this pinning mechanism is very high, and comparable to the critical current density in high-quality films and single crystals.
