Interfacial turbulence during absorption of CO2 with aqueous solutions of NaOH

In a previous paper, it was shown that distinct Schlieren images, which are attributed to the interfacial turbulence, occur in liquid phase during absorption of CO2 into aqueous solutions of NaOH. Experiments were undertaken with a liquid jet column at 30°C to ascertain occurrence of interfacial turbulence in the system through its enhancement of absorption rates. Absorption rates into surfactant-free solutions are greater than those into solutions with surfactant by a factor of 1.2 at the most.
