Abstract

The absorbed energy of partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) and SiC was analyzed in an instrumented Charpy impact test and a static three point bend test. The fracture energy of PSZ is 57-59% of the total absorbed energy and that of SiC is 38-56%. The amount of stress-induced phase transformation in a Charpy impact test is larger. A singular loading is found in impact tests of PSZ, due probably to an inertia effect and stress-induced phase transformation.
