The flow theory does not provide a sufficient framework in describing the behaviour of geomaterials, since the volumetric response cannot be treated independently from the shearing one, and the Drucker’s stability postulate is not usually satisfied by the flow theory. The multi-response theory proposed by Ichikawa, Kyoya and Kawamoto (1985) is a natural extension of the incremental plasticity theory. The model is here applied for the behaviour of geomaterials under cyclic loading with nonlinear elastic and plastic responses.
