Abstract
An improved streamwise upwind algorithm has been derived and applied to conical flow fields. The improvements are (1) additional terms are introduced in the crossflow direction to prevent solution decoupling in supersonic flows or instability at contact discontinuities, and (2) the local Mach number is taken into account to evaluate the rotated differencing. The present solutions are compared with experimental data and other numerical solutions. The comparison results show that the present formula (1) captures oblique shock waves in the same manner as Roe’s formula, (2) requires axithmetic operations of the same order as Roe’s, (3) has good convergence properties, and (4) computes shear flows accurately.
