Abstract

Even small imperfections can sharply reduce the strength of structures, such as shells, undergoing bifurcation. Classical linearized theory was inadequate to explain such sharp reductions for shells. This inadequacy was resolved through the implementation of nonlinearity and imperfections into the governing equation.
