Image Reconstruction and Processing Algorithm of GPR for Humanitarian Demining Sensor ALIS

Abstract

ALIS is a dual sensor developed for humanitarian demining, which combines EMI sensor and GPR. In addition, ALIS is also equipped with a sensor position tracking system, by using an accelerometer for tracking the antenna position. ALIS can reconstruct subsurface 3-dimentional images from the data sets acquired by hand scanning. We use the back projection algorithm for imaging, and found it works well under very strong clutter condition in mine fields in Cambodia. We demonstrate that ALIS can image anti-personnel mines including PMN-2 and Type 72 buried in typical soil in Cambodia up to 20cm very clearly.
