Hypernuclear fine structure in Λ9Be

Abstract

γ rays from 9∧Be produced by the 9Be(K--) reaction were measured. Two γ ray peaks corresponding to the 5/2+ → 1/2+ and 3/2+ → 1/2+ transitions were observed. The energies of the γ rays are 3029 ± 2 ± 1 keV and 3060 ± 2 ± 1 keV, and their energy spacing is 31.4-3.6+0.28 keV. The lifetime of the γ-decaying states is 0.51-0.14+0.28 ps which converts to a reduced transition probability of B(E2) = 5.7-2.0+2.1 e2 fm4. The result of a small spacing gives a very small ∧-spin-dependent ∧N spin-orbit force.
