Hydrocracking of Orinoco tar over metal-free USY zeolite

Catalytic hydrocracking of Orinoco tar over metal-free USY zeolite was studied using a high pressure fixed bed reactor to produce chemical feedstocks like BTX. The effects of reaction temperature and catalyst on the product distribution were examined. The highest BTX yield of 19.4 wt.% was obtained at 500°C. BTX yield as well as hydrocarbon gas yield were significantly lower in the absence of catalyst.
