N2 - In MgNi with an amorphous phase, a miscibility-gap (plateau) pressure of about 3×10-4 MPa at room temperature was clearly detected by electrochemical p-c isotherm measurements. The total radial distribution functions for X-ray and neutron diffraction indicated that deuterium in MgNi occupies an interstitial tetrahedral site composed of nearly 2Mg2Ni. Structural and hydriding properties of elemental substitution systems, Mg(Ni1-xTx,) (T = Co and Cu) and (Mg1-xAlx)Ni with x = 0-0.5, were also investigated experimentally.
