Highly transparent lutetium titanium oxide produced by spark plasma sintering

Abstract

Transparent Lu2Ti2O7 pyrochlore was fabricated by reactive sintering using spark plasma sintering at 1723K for 45min. The sintered body exhibited 72% transmittance at a wavelength of 2000nm and 40% transmittance at 550nm. The average grain size was 14.5μm with uniform microstructure.
