Highly frequency-tunable terahertz plasmon-resonant photomixer with super-grating gate structure

Abstract

A plasmon-resonant photomixer incorporating a super-grating gate structure of quantum wires with a 100-nm interval can improve the frequency tunability of terahertz radiation. Gatebias distribution applied to each gate finger can control the periodicity of plasmon resonant cavities. FDTD simulation demonstrated that the radiation power can be enhanced over a wide frequency range by tuning the structure-dependent transmittance-peak frequency to the plasmon resonant frequency of the nature of a plasmon-resonant cavity.
