Abstract
This meter was developed by NTT to help ensure efficient and reliable maintenance of underground fuel tanks for standby engines. At 20 °C, it has a maximum error of 5 mm when the meter is 2 m from the liquid surface. By connecting the meter to a telephone circuit, the liquid level in a remote location tank can be continuously monitored. This facilitates the detection of leaks, which helps prevent disasters and preserve the environment. Meters have been installed on a trial base in the underground light-oil tanks at the Watari and Tekura Radio Repeater Stations of NTT's Tohoku Network Center; they have operated successfully for over two years as a part of the remote monitoring equipment.
