High sensitivity waveform measurement with optical sampling using quasi-phasematched mixing in LiNbO3 waveguide

Abstract

Quasi-phasematched mixing in an LiNbO3 waveguide was used to demonstrate high efficiency optical waveform measurement of a 160 Gbit/s signal. Optical sampling based on optical nonlinearity can be used for evaluating ultrahigh speed optical time division mulitiplexed (OTDM) transmission systems because of its high temporal resolution. This sampling system helps in realizing high sensitivity waveform measurements with temporal resolution better than 1ps for OTDM signals greater than 100 Gbit/s.
