High resolution electron microscopy of high-tc superconductor y-ba-cu-o

    Two kinds of Y-Ba-Cu-O compounds with zero resistance temperatures of 88.0 and 91.3 K were examined by high resolution electron microscopy. In a lattice image of the compound with Tc = 88 K taken with the incident beam parallel to the c axis, inhomogeneous distribution of linear contrast consisting of bright-dot arrays, which seem to result from shortrange ordering of oxygen vacancies or metal atoms, was observed. This was not observed in lattice images of the compound with Tc = 91.3K. A structure image of the compound with Tc = 91.3K was analyzed by the comparison with a structure model proposed by neutron diffraction, with the aid of computer simulation.
