High-Frequency Magnetic Recording Using a Dual Write Head

Abstract

Ultrashort magnetic field pulses of tens of picoseconds duration are able to reverse the magnetization of a particle if the applied field is perpendicular to the initial magnetization vector. Here, a dual write head structure combining ring and single pole type (SPT) heads is proposed to generate such fields in a recording medium in order to increase the rate at which data can be written. Using such a head, the magnetization reversal time can be reduced to 1/2-1/3 of that when using an SPT head.
