High-field magnetization study of the heavy fermion oxide LiV 2 O 4

Abstract

High-field magnetizations of heavy fermion oxide LiV 2 O 4 single crystals and Li 0.9 Zn 0.1 V 2 O 4 powder were investigated up to 65 T with pulsed magnets. LiV 2 O 4 showed a metamagnetic transition at around 40 T, followed by a linear increase above 45 T. In contrast, disordered Li 0.9 Zn 0.1 V 2 O 4 , with a spin-glass state below 2.6 K, showed no clear indication of metamagnetism, suggesting the intimate link between the metamagnetism and the quasi-particle coherence.
