Abstract
The heat capacities of TiAl and Ti3Al intermetallic compounds in the temperature range between 600 and 1425K have been determined by the heat-flux type differencial scanning calorimeter (DSC). The deviation of the heat capacity value of the synthetic sapphire of α-Al2O 3 from the reference data was estimated to be within ±3%. The heat capacity values obtained in this work for TiAl and Ti3Al intermetallic compounds are given as follows. TiAl: Cp(J· mol-1·K-1) = (48.7±6.6) + (13.3±5.4) × 10-3T - (1.5±1.1) × 106×T -2 (from 470 to 1425 K) Ti3Al: Cp(J· mol-1·K-1) = (123.3±30.9) + (33.5±27.7)×10-3T - (5.2 ± 4.4)×10 6 × T-2 (from 470 to 1425 K) The experimental uncertainty of the order of ±10% should be suggested for Ti-Al intermetallic compounds and this is mainly attributed to a condition that the sufficient amount of the sample is not available.
