Glass-forming ability and magnetic properties of (Fe,Co)-B-Si-Nb bulk glassy alloys

The effect of replacement Fe by Co on the glass-forming ability and magnetic properties of (Fe,Co)-B-Si-Nb glassy alloys was investigated. It was found that the glass-forming ability increased with increasing Co content. The maximum diameter for the formation of glassy alloy rod was 2.0 mm for Fe 72B20Si4Nb4 and 4.0 mm for (Fe 0.5Co0.5)72B20Si4Nb4, and their saturation magnetization was 1.22 and 1.10 T, respectively. Moreover, we tried to prepare glassy alloys in plate and ring forms for (Fe 0.6Co0.4)72B20Si4Nb4 by copper mold casting. The glassy alloy plate of 60 mm in length, 20 mm in width and 1.0 mm in thickness as well as the glassy alloy ring of 15 mm in outer diameter, 10 mm in inner diameter and 1.0 mm in thickness was formed. The glassy ring exhibited good soft magnetic properties with a low coercive force of 1.5 A/m.
