Abstract
The structure and expression of the Drosophila glutamate transporter gene Dglt-1 was examined. The gene contained at least 11 exons and putative target sequences of a glia-specific transcription factor. The gene expression was restricted to the central nervous system, including optic anlage and optic lobe, suggesting that Dglt-1 may be involved in development of the visual system in addition to excitatory synaptic transmission.
