N2 - A mathematical formulation and numerical analysis were carried out for the gas flow and heat transfer using the finite element method. A computer program was developed to compute gas flow, pressure of gas, solid flow, and temperatures of gas and solid simultaneously. The bed structure principally governed the gas flow pattern and temperature distribution. Particle size may also play a role as a controlling factor.
