Abstract
In this paper, we investigate a knowledge system which understands a text of a history and can answer questions about it. First, the knowledge model to represent knowledge in a text on a history is proposed. This model is formalized by two layers. The first layer (Event Description Layer- EDL) consists of a set of the description of 'event's and their 'relation's. The latter layer (Characteristic Description Layer; CDL) consists of a set of the descriptions to characterize 'event's of EDL such as person descriptions, place descriptions, predicate descriptions and so on. Next, we investigate the inference mechanism on this knowledge model. Last, an experimental system which answers simple questions about a text is designed using FRUTE (Frame Representation and Utilization Environment) which have been already developed.
