Abstract

The operating characteristics of a new type of torque sensor are described. The sensor consists of amorphous ribbons endowed with uniaxial anisotropy bonded to the shaft and corresponding pick-up heads. The heads are excited at 50kHz. The output signals from the sensors are processed to produce burst signals from which the torque is obtained. This sensor is easily mounted on a shaft, has a high detection sensitivity and operates under a low exciting current. It can be used to detect the torque at a given angular displacement, or for simultaneous detection of torque and revolution rate.
