Abstract
Single-pole heads were studied to enhance writability and field gradient for ultrahigh-density recording. It was demonstrated that a return yoke closely placed to the mainpole at the trailing side is effective to improve writing field gradients in experiments as a modified structure of cusp field single-pole head. The new head structure was expected to become a latest design guideline for high frequency writers.
