Abstract
The present study is part of a project dealing with the service life extension of Japanese Shinkansen superexpress train wheelsets. This paper deals with fracture toughness behaviour evaluation of wheelset materials. Two wheel materials and one axle material were investigated. The fracture toughness under quasi-static as well as under dynamic loading conditions was evaluated. The results were summarized and the fracture toughness velocity dependence was evaluated.
