Forest fire detection in Far East region of Russia by using NOAA AVHRR images

Abstract

A new method of fire detection for multidimensional satellite images is developed to monitor the extent of large forest fires and to estimate burned areas. The method is based on the three dimensional histogram, hence it runs automatically and detects fire areas. As a result, it is possible to make the fire category database.
