Abstract
An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of two elliptic cylinders having an axis ratio 1:2. They were placed in tandem arrangements and their angles of attack to the upstream uniform flow were identical but in opposite directions to each other. The test fluid was air and the Reynolds number based on the major axis length c ranged from about 15000 to 80000, the angle of attack alpha being 30 degree , 45 degree and 60 degree , and the non-dimensional cylinder spacing 1/c from 1. 25 to 4. 0, where L-SCRIPT denotes the streamwise distance between the cylinder centers. Further, a flow visualization study was made in order to examine mutual correlations between the heat transfer and flow features around the two elliptic cylinders.
