Abstract
Hollow polycarbonate (PC) fiber with a small bore-size of 0.32 mm was fabricated by using PC capillary as a supporting tube for infrared hollow fiber. The flat low-loss spectrum was attained from the near infrared to the far infrared wavelength regions by using hollow PC fiber inner-coated with a smooth silver film. Infrared fiber bundle was made by using 224 pieces of silver-coated hollow PC fiber with 0.32 mm bore-size. The length of the bundle is 40 cm and the cross sectional area is around 50 square centimeters. Thermal infrared image of a heated wire was successfully transmitted through the bundle. The flexible and non-toxic infrared fiber bundle is a promising transmission medium for applications in medical and industrial field.
