Abstract

A plastic optical fibre (POF) transmission experiment utilizing green LEDs at a wavelength of 520 nm is reported. The transmission loss of the 100 m POF was 10 dB, which is considerably lower than the loss for red (660 nm) and blue (470 nm) LEDs. The receiver sensitivity at 30 Mbit/s was -20.8 dB at 10-9 bit error rate, which suggests the possibility of a longer length signal transmission, 200 m or longer.
