Finite element analysis of powder blasting process

Abstract

Powder blasting is an attractive and promising technique for micro machining of hard and brittle materials. This paper focuses on the process analysis of powder blasting by the finite element simulation. A finite element model is set up, in which the nozzle structural parameters and the blasting process parameters are varied for the simulation. The velocity distribution of finer abrasive powders and the impact pressure distribution on the target surface applied by the mixture of abrasive powders and compressed gas are demonstrated. The simulation results help the nozzle structure design and the blasting process optimization.
