Abstract
We present thermodynamic evidence for a field-induced first-order phase transition in α-(BEDT-TTF)2KHg(SCN)4 in the low-temperature, high field limit (0.35 K, 23.4 T). Magnetoquantum oscillations with a fundamental frequency of 673 T(±1%) and its harmonics are observed in both magnetothermal and specific heat measurements below and above the transition. The field-independence of the non-oscillatory background contribution to the specific heat between 23.4 T and 33 T is consistent with a high-field metallic state.
