Abstract

Ferroelectric switching characteristics were investigated by applying various forms of voltage pulses and measuring the time evolution of charge responses for 50-500nm-thick films of a VDF(75)/TrFE(25) copolymer. It is shown that he use of Au electrode reveals thickness-independent switching time and remanent polarization down to 50nmn unlike the previous reports on the films with Al electrode. The switching time depends on the various factors not only the applied electric field strength but also the previous poling conditions. Remarkable acceleration in polarization reversal is found to occur when the bipolar electric field short pulses is applied periodically. These results are discussed in relation to the memory characteristics such as imprint and fatigue effects.
