Abstract
Initial formation processes of self-trapped excitons (STE) from free electron-hole pairs (e-h pairs) and free excitons in KI crystals have been investigated by femtosecond pump and probe spectroscopy using two-photon absorption of UV pulses with various photon energies. For the resonant excitation of 2p-free excitons, the two-center STE is directly formed without generating the one-center self-trapped state which appears under the band-to-band excitations.
