Abstract
We studied the magnetization loss characteristics of the HTS layer of the coated conductor with magnetic substrate. The current distribution and the magnetization loss in the superconducting layer of an HTS coated conductor under the external AC magnetic fields perpendicular or parallel to the wide face of the conductor are analyzed using the finite element method. The nonlinear E-J characteristic and the nonlinear magnetic property of the substrate is taken into account. It is shown that the magnetization losses are hardly affected by the magnetic property of the substrate under the external AC magnetic field perpendicular to the wide face of a conductor. On the contrary, the magnetization losses in the superconducting layer of the HTS conductors having the magnetic substrate are much larger than the losses of that having the non-magnetic substrate under the external AC magnetic field parallel to the wide face of a conductor.
