Feasibility study of three dimensional dose calculation from 198au grain in brachytherapy for head-and-neck cancer

Abstract

The aim of this study was to clarify the dose distribution of 198Au brachytherapy for head-and-neck cancer (T1N0M0). In this study, dose distribution from 198Au grain within patients was calculated by VariSeed (Varian medical systems) that was radiation treatment planning system for prostate cancer in brachytherapy. To identify the source positions, highresolution CT image was used. Commonly, we evaluated the dose using only X-ray images. This method cannot accurately evaluate the three-dimensional distribution. Our results indicated that the VariSeed can calculate the three-dimensional dose distribution and, were useful for brachytherapy for head-and-neck cancer.
