Abstract
The resistance of titanium alloys to fatigue fracture under combined alternating stresses was investigated. The experimental dependence of the endurance limit under different combinations of alternating bending and torsional stresses has been obtained and compared with the theoretical criterions. The fatigue fracture criterion is given by the maximum shear stress criterion with a small error in the safe side for design use, whereas the criterion for the overall (macroscopic) direction of fatigue crack propagation is given by macroscopic (applied) tensile principal stress.
