Abstract
Three viologen derivatives with the ability to detect amines were synthesised. Upon interacting with amines, a rapid colour change caused by electron transfer and charge transfer between viologen derivatives and amines can be directly observed by naked eyes. With fluorine substituents, the detection sensitivity of these viologen derivatives for amines is remarkably enhanced to reach the level of ppm.
