Abstract
Ti-Al alloys from prealloyed powder of Ti-47.5Al-2.5V-1.0Cr were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS). The results show that Ti-Al-based alloy with higher density and uniform microstructure is obtained by SPS at sintering temperature of 1100°C or above. However, the microstructures of the alloy change with the sintering temperature variation. While sintered at 1100°C and 1150°C, they consist of equiaxed (γ) and lamellar (α 2 +γ) grain; sintered at 1200°C, they are of fully lamellar microstructure. The alloys sintered at 1100°C with fine duplex microstructure exhibit better compressive properties at room temperature, with the compressive strength of 3321 MPa and the compression ratio of 35.2%.
