Fabrication and wavelength tuning of a high-quality fiber bragg grating

Abstract

When a Ge-doped core of a fiber is irradiated by an ultraviolet beam, visible light with a wavelength of about 400 nm is generated and propagates through the optical fiber. In this paper we propose a high-quality fiber Bragg grating fabrication method with feedback control of the axial displacement of the ultraviolet beam with monitoring of this visible light during UV scanning. Using the scanning UV irradiation technique based on monitoring this fluorescence a high-quality Bragg fiber grating was fabricated and was used in constructing a variable wave-length transmission type optical filter.
