Expression of the gene for NADP-dependent sorbitol-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in peach leaves of various developmental stages

    Abstract

    The level of NADP-dependent sorbitol-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (S6PDH) transcripts was higher in more developed peach leaves than in folded young leaves, and was concomitant to the alteration of enzyme activity and protein level. These results suggest that the expression of the S6PDH gene is associated with source function. The S6PDH activity and protein level in leaves also varied seasonally. They were higher in May, declined with fruit maturation, and rose again after fruit harvest. This change was probably controlled by the level of transcripts.
