In apple seedlings the levels of NADP-dependent sorbitol-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity and protein were high in cotyledons compared with other organs. Although the induction of the activity during germination was attributed to de novo synthesis of this enzyme, the accumulation of the protein did not coincide with that of transcripts encoding the enzyme.
