Exchange anisotropy of polycrystalline Mn-Ir/Co-Fe bilayers enlarged by long-time annealing

Abstract

The long-time annealing effect on the exchange anisotropy of polycrystalline Mn75Ir25dAF/Co 70Fe30 4 nm bilayers was investigated. The process was done to induce large unidirectional anisotropy constant JK, with very thin antiferromagnetic layer. It was found that extra large value of J K=0.87 erg/cm2 was obtained in the bilayer with d AF =5 nm after 200 h annealing at 250° C. The enlarging mechanisms of JK was suggested to be the change of distribution of antiferromagnetic spin directions.
