Evolution of non-Fermi liquid state from U2Pd1 - XSi3 + x spin glasses

Abstract

We study the competition between RKKY and Kondo interactions in the U2Pd1 - xSi3 - x (x = 0, ± 0.1, ± 0.2, ± 0.3, ± 0.4, ± 0.5) compounds in which Pd and Si atoms are randomly distributed at the same site. With increasing x, the spin-glass freezing temperatures, Tf, detected by the cusps of the M/H curves decrease gradually from 21 to 0 K. The silicon-rich samples of x = 0.4, 0.5 exhibit the non-Fermi liquid behaviors of C/T ∝ χ ∝ T- 1 + λ below 10 K.
