Abstract

Susceptibility, ESR, and magnetization measurements were made on single crystals of the bond alternating chain (BAC) compound: [Ni(333-tet) (μ-NO2)](ClO4) [333-tet=N,N′-bis(3-aminopropyl)propane-1,3-diamine] (NTENP) and the compound doped with a small amount of Zn (NTENP:Zn). Results were analyzed using a model based on the valence-bond-solid (VBS) picture.
