Abstract

Fast-neutron emission from the giant quadrupole resonance in Sn119 was studied for the first time by measuring the deexciting neutrons in coincidence with the inelastic α′ from the reaction Sn119(α, α′). The neutron time-of-flight spectrum shows both the slow evaporation component corresponding to the spreading process and the fast component corresponding to the direct escape leading to single-hole states in the residual nucleus Sn118.
